Plutocratic Coup
The cities and guilds have grown so powerful they assumed de facto control over our country. Real power now lies in the hands of a small group of wealthy Plutocrats.

Plutocratic Coup[1] is a disaster that may occur in countries with a powerful Burghers estate.

The country has a Burghers.pngBurghers estate which has at least 100 Estate influence influence.

If these prerequisites are met, the monthly progress can begin.

Monthly progress increases if Monthly progress decreases if

The country:

  • does not have an ongoing disaster.
  • has a Burghers estate with at least 100 influence.
The country:
  • has an ongoing disaster or has a Burghers estate with less than 100 influence.
The country:
+5% has a Burghers estate with at least 100 influence.
−1% always

If the progress reaches 100%, the disaster will start with the following event:

Msg event.pngThe $ESTATE_BURGHERS$ Seize Power

$MONARCH$ has allowed the $ESTATE_BURGHERS$ of $COUNTRY$ to grow too powerful and now they have made their move. Making use of their many hard-earned privileges as well as the many debts owed to them, they have effectively seized the reins of government and turned the $MONARCHTITLE$ into little more than their puppet.

We should have seen this coming...

The country:

  • loses Icon stability.png 1 stability.

[Root.GetName] will now be controlled by the Burghers until the 'Curtail the Burghers' decision is taken.

While the disaster is ongoing the country gets:

  • Morale of armies.png −10% morale of armies,
  • National manpower modifier.png −25% national manpower modifier,
  • Land force limit modifier.png −25% land force limit modifier,
  • Prestige.png −1 yearly prestige.

The disaster only ends when the country passes the following decision.[3]

Execute decision.pngCurtail the Burghers

Through bribery and corruption, the Burghers have a stranglehold on our government. To seize control back from these merchants we will need to curtail their power and privileges.

Potential requirements

The country:

  • has an ongoing ‘Plutocratic Coup’ disaster.[4]

The country:

  • has a stability of at least 1.
  • does not have rebel armies in its provinces.
  • does not have rebel controlled provinces.
  • has a Burghers estate which influence is lower than 60.

The country:[5]

  • loses Icon stability.png 3 stability.

The capital province:

  • loses Tax Base Icon.png 1 base tax.
  • loses Production.png 1 base production.

Then the following event is triggered.

Msg event.pngThe $ESTATE_BURGHERS$ Curtailed

We have finally managed to break our reliance on the $ESTATE_BURGHERS$, reclaiming control over all important state functions and reducing these peddlers to their rightful confines within the city walls.
