The regional divisions of the East Indies super-region.
East Indies super-region
Burma region
Indochina region
Indonesia region
Malaya region
Moluccas region

East Indies super-region is stretched from the southern part of Asia up to Oceania. The area can be divided to two main parts; the mainland and the islands. The mainland is situated between two other super-regions, one already containing a big power in the form of Flag of Ming Ming while the other tends to produce one towards the mid-to-late game in the form of one of the Indian nations. Most of the time the nations on the mainland remain safe from outside threats due Ming losing the Mandate of Heaven and splitting up or the long rising time of an Indian force. The islands on the other hand tend to end in a different outcome due to them being relatively detached from each other and half of the provinces being uncolonized. Nations on connected islands tend to rival each other and after some time most islands are ruled by one or two nations. Towards the mid-game the first European powers start to arrive at the area and target the colonizable provinces and consequently the small nearby island nations. By the end-game large parts of the islands end up under European rule with presence established on the mainland as well.

The break-down of the East Indies super-region is as follows:

Government types

  • Government monarchy.png Despotic Monarchy is the dominant government type in these parts.
  • A couple of Government republic.png Republic governments are available at late start dates.

Religions

  • Theravada.png Theravada and Mahayana.png Mahayana in the northern part.
  • Animism Animist and Hinduism Hindu in the eastern and southeastern parts respectively.
  • Sunni Islam Sunni in the central and southwestern parts (with a small pocket of Confucianism Confucian at late start dates).

Technology groups

  • Almost all nations in these parts belong to the Chinese technology group Chinese technology group.
  • Indian technology group Indian in the most western part.

Culture groups

  • Burman in the northwestern part.
  • Mon Khmer and Thai in the northern part.
  • Malay in the central and southern parts.
  • Dravidian and Pacific pockets in the most western and eastern parts respectively.

Formable / Reformable nations

Some of these nations don't exist at the 1444 campaign start. They can appear if another nation chooses to form them.

Revolter nations

These nations don't exist and also lack cores at the 1444 campaign start. They can still appear if Separatist rebels.png Separatist rebels manage to take control of their cultural provinces.

Regional nations

Notes: These articles refer to the state of the world at the start of the grand-campaign (1444-11-11); meaning, if a nation is picked in other time points it may have different attributes. Table listings include: [1] 1444 starting nations, [2] 1444 releasable nations. Other tags, [3] later start/pure formables/revolters ("wild card" stats), are mentioned at the top. Worth noting, [4] a nation is assigned a home region based on its capital's location, [5] location names use the default localisation for consistency reasons (for searching in-game enter the provided province numbers). For a list of all available tags check the Countries article.
