Countries page[edit]

Before you continue working, I should probably clarify that the table would have to stay as the data in it differs from what appears on the regional nations pages. ~ SolSys (talk) 21:27, 19 May 2017 (CEST)

Sorry, but I do not understand what differs from the regional pages except the addition of the tag. Moreover, in the table there are some missing countries. Can you explain more ? Thank you UserID (talk) 21:47, 19 May 2017 (CEST)
The big table contains the default values for each nation while the regional pages bases it's data on first availability [note is at bottom of pages - I'll admit it is not the best location]. This means that although for the most part they may appear the same they can/will differ for nations that do not exist at 1444 - just as they change for nations that ceased to exist during a campaign and then been revived. If you're wondering why I decided to go this route in the first place it was due to PDS releasing gameplay data that an overwhelming percentage of players pick the earliest possible date to play. The missing nations are probably from the big table being manually updated lately - generally, it was/is auto-generated using a script. ~ SolSys (talk) 22:57, 19 May 2017 (CEST)
OK, thank you for the precisions. However, I think it should be less confusing if these informations are explained on the same page instead of being in two different lists with a small note at the bottom. In these cases, it can be changed by setting informations by default in the list with more explanations in the note. For example :
State Government Religion Tech group National ideas Culture group Capital Notes
Tonkin.png Tonkin Government monarchy.png Despotic Monarchy Theravada.png Theravada Chinese technology group Chinese Idea unlock Dai Viet Mon Khmer (Vietnamese) Thanh Hoa (610)
  • Releasable by Flag of Dai Viet Dai Viet - Is Mahayana.png Mahayana when released in 1444.
  • Available by date (1527) - Is Theravada.png Theravada from this date.

Just a tip which may save you some time. If you put the copyright and category in the summary of a file when you upload it then that information is kept on the uploaded file page. This means you won't need to add it in after the upload. Dauth (talk) 17:06, 4 November 2017 (CET)

Recommended DLCs sections[edit]

Hi, after some internal discussion, it was decided not to further incorporate these sections into the individual country pages. That being said, if you can change the scope of the work from small sections to a unified central page [one for unit models and one for enhanced mechanics], I think it could work nicely. I have a folder of the unit model renders at hand if you'd like me to upload them. For the time, the edits have been reverted -- I did not copy them to your sandbox as you already have a copy present. Thanks. ~ SolSys (talk) 17:44, 13 November 2017 (CET)

OK, but the question is why? Why do not integrate the section as intended? What is the problem with this? There are hundreds of renders and no, they can not be unified on a heavy bloated central page. I think you don't understand the goal of having a all-in-one on each country page, answering the question of which DLC for which country without searching a lot.--UserID (talk) 18:44, 13 November 2017 (CET)
The wiki operates on the premise that all users have all DLC enabled and the most up to date patch. Discussion of variety on this premise will lead to a fractured wiki which is less useful to everyone. Additionally, I don't think a central page listing expanded DLC mechanics [i.e. like religion ] would be that "bloated". ~ SolSys (talk) 19:20, 13 November 2017 (CET)
OK 100% of the users buyed all the DLC and they don't want to enhance the country they play, so no need to know which DLC to buy, I forgot that Paradox don't need money, sorry for my misguide. Morehover, having a DLC section fractures the wiki as the Countries pages have national ideas, events, missions, strategies, so it should be better to merge all in one strategy page for all countries, delete the ideas as they are already here, likewise for the events and missions. I understand now, more than 300 renders only for Europe lightens the page. I repent for my impure thoughts, I was thinking that it could be better for users to have a clear explanation with renders of units concerning the country instead of digging into different sections of the wiki and the forum to decipher some informations. I was wrong, forgive me. So can I still upload a fragment of my humble work you can modify later? --UserID (talk) 21:32, 13 November 2017 (CET)
Please be less hostile to other users; if you believe them to be wrong, argue calmly rather than adding unnecessary hostility.
Note that this isn't me agreeing or disagreeing with your point of view; I currently have no opinion on this particular issue. ~ Meneth (talk) 09:19, 16 November 2017 (CET)

[Unindented] The startup is a nice touch, though maybe it could be moved to a more prominent location, but please avoid adding the DLCs back again for the time being. ~ SolSys (talk) 22:44, 27 August 2018 (CEST)

Feel free to improve it. This is a first draft, that's why I added it on only one country page. I don't add DLCs, but just the unit renders, so I change the title to avoid confusion. The country pages feels blank and need some images UserID (talk) 23:07, 27 August 2018 (CEST)
You've been asked not to return the section in -- changing the title does NOT make it acceptable. Moreover, drafts should be debated while being on a userpage rather than a mainpage. Be sure not to repeat this while it is being discussed. ~ SolSys (talk) 18:43, 28 August 2018 (CEST)
OK, so, where is the discussion? UserID (talk) 22:04, 28 August 2018 (CEST)
Hi, sorry for the delayed reply. It was an internal discussion on a related policy. The renders can be added to country pages with some minor alterations. At the moment a template is considered for ease of use and other presentation styles. As I'm a bit pressed for time I can't delve into the details now, but wanted to let you know that it is being looked at. You can contact me here or on the forums and I'll try to get back to you if possible. Thanks. ~ SolSys (talk) 20:35, 30 August 2018 (CEST)

Oh well, this shitty idea of adding the recommended DLCs and linking it to the countries will be directly integrated into the game... UserID (talk) 17:02, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

This needs updating. How did you get the transparency at the top? Hairy Dude (talk) 17:08, 9 April 2018 (CEST)

@Hairy Dude - I think you can cut of the user interface from a screenshot with a stencil of the files from /Europa Universalis IV/gfx/interface. – Lillebror (talk) 22:29, 9 April 2018 (CEST)

Edit wars[edit]

Please stop the edit wars -- Now. There is a reason we use templates [and transclusions] on the wikis. They save users/admins the time of changing every single entry by updating them from a central location. [Moderator edit] ~ SolSys (talk) 22:06, 1 September 2018 (CEST)

Look at the changes, this is exactly the same effect. The hoverbox instead of the DLC-only template is used to avoid breaking nomenclature in this particular case. There is 3 solutions: changing the template, editing all the missions to invert icons and change the current nomenclature, or use another template for this effect. For now, it is easiest to use another template, you can apply another solution afterwards, but you can't change a nomenclature used for all other missions just on one effect. UserID (talk) 23:06, 1 September 2018 (CEST)
Said order is used across the wiki. Template follows it. Page in question does not. This is a final decision. [Moderator edit] ~ SolSys (talk) 23:22, 1 September 2018 (CEST)

Indian Missions pages[edit]

Hey, nice job on the Indian missions - I was cracking my head trying to find out how to build it up the generic indian tres. Looking good there!--GNozaki (talk) 00:29, 9 December 2018 (CET)

Thank you. Glad to help, now you can fill in the blanks and keep up the good work you made on the mission trees :) UserID (talk) 21:15, 9 December 2018 (CET)

Hi, I am helping someone generate a trade map for a mod they're making. Do you mind sharing the method in which you generated File:Trade_nodes_with_arrows.png? I would appreciate any assistance in this area, the trade map you've made is much cleaner/organized than taking multiple screenshots of the in-game trade map mode. Stackpointer (talk) 01:04, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, it is not generated but photoshopped UserID (talk) 22:21, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Oh wow, you've definitely done good work on all the images. How did you generate the base province image that you work off of? The province.bmp file in the game files don't have any borders. Stackpointer (talk) 06:32, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
The base is this file Trade nodes.png. I updated it to 1.30. I will udate the image with arrows later. UserID (talk) 06:38, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, please PM me on the forums. Regards, SolSys (talk) 19:20, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Mission trees[edit]

Hello! I see you’re a frequent editor of mission tree articles. I’m writing to point something out for you. As you can see in my recent edits in the following two articles: Lower Saxon missions and Pomeranian missions, I have corrected what seemed to be an oversight on your part. Namely, it looks like you have written the articles while only looking at the missions in-game. While more convenient, this leads to incomplete information, as many missions have if-clauses and have different conditions and effects depending on various factors. This is why those articles must be based off game files. While much less readable, this ensures these are correct.

I’m not writing this to degrade your work in any way. Writing mission tree articles is tedious and deserves praise. I’m simply giving advice. You also don’t have to completely abandon your method of work – you can write the articles the way you’re used to, and simply verify them for any hidden conditions by consulting the game files. I hope it will come easy for you because it’s not the easiest thing reading game code.

That being said there is an ongoing discussion here started by me regarding the style of writing mission tree articles. As you are a frequent contributor I hope you will want to say a few words on that matter.

Cheers, MichaelTheSlav (talk) 17:16, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

As you have seen, I am not very active in this moment, I do not have enough time for now. But I can explain quickly the goal of my edits in 3 steps:
  • First, create the template with images but blank descriptions of the missions. It is easier for all contributors to fill it and it is better than having a blank page. If I had time I wrote quickly some missions. For Example: Savoyard_missions or Hungarian_missions
  • Second part: when all missions pages are created and up to date, it is time to correct it all and add a nomenclature and missing informations. For Example: Portuguese_missions or Burgundian_missions
  • Third, improve it to avoid massive amount of text when there is too much conditions to a mission, something like collapsing, simplifying, or a template. For Example: Qing_missions#The_Three_Feudatories or Hungarian_missions#Old_Alliances
You do not degrade my work in any way. It was not definitive, it is a wiki and anyone can imporove it. So I am glad to see someone going the right way to improve the mission pages, there is a lot of work and it is not MY work, but the work of all contributors. UserID (talk) 20:44, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
