Definition of casus belli?
Just had a quick question for you on the definition you gave for casus belli. I haven't really studied Latin, but I've seen "belli" as a root in words such as belligerent or in phrases such as "status quo antebellum" (i.e. same status as before war).
As far as I know, something like "bene" is the Latin word for good (as seen in English words like benevolence or benefactor or evolution into the French 'bon' and Spanish 'bueno').
Am I misunderstanding something, or does "casus belli" really refer to "cause for war" rather than "good cause" as you've argued?
- After some research I think you're right, I got mixed up. Haven't taken Latin in a while, the edit is undone. Mailman9 (talk) 15:43, 9 August 2013 (CEST)
Thought I'd turn the popular reddit post into a wiki page. I self-assessed at a C. Also, I tried to put this country's guide into the appropriate navbox, Template:Country_navbox/North_America, but even though I am autoconfirmed it didn't seem to work. If someone could do that for me I'd very much appreciate it. Mailman9 (talk) 07:53, 14 January 2018 (CET)
- Hi and welcome [back] to the wiki. As a general rule of thumb, only articles of a certain class are added to the navbox and assessment in itself is left to the moderators. Given that you did test this first on your sandbox, I'll leave the article as is for now. However, I'll ask you to adapt it to follow the wiki's style guidelines within a week, otherwise it will have to be removed. Thanks for the contributing to the wiki. ~ SolSys (talk) 09:44, 14 January 2018 (CET)
- Edit: BTW, pages starting with "User talk:USER_NAME" are used for discussion [and can appear on different categories when searching]. If you want to experiment with additional page you can create a new sandbox pages starting with your username -- as in "User:USER_NAME/SandboxXYZ". I've moved the article discussion to your main talk page for ease of communication [if that is fine with you, otherwise you can move it back if so desired]. ~ SolSys (talk) 09:56, 14 January 2018 (CET)
