Idea group[edit]

Now, i'm not sure where to put this, but i honestly think this is kinda painful to read. I think it should be horizontal instead, like Template:Mission. Pinpinolo (talk) 14:35, 5 September 2013 (CEST)

Just a minor nitpick: shouldn't the last "Bonus" be called "Ambition" to keep it consistent with the game? --The Overlord (talk) 16:35, 11 September 2013 (CEST)

I'm not sure if the meaning of "ambition" is as obvious as "bonus" though. If it wasn't for that, I'd definitely change it. ~ Meneth (talk) 16:42, 11 September 2013 (CEST)
Well, both the game and the manual refer to it as "ambition" and the starting "traditions" are already named so on the template, but I can see your point there. --The Overlord (talk) 19:02, 11 September 2013 (CEST)
To return to the above topic. I prefer ‘Ambitions’ for the national ideas and ‘Bonus’ for the basic ideas. Would be also easy to implement.
[[File:Icon ideas.png|28px]] {{#Switch: {{{country}}}
| yes
| group = '''Ambitions:''' <br />
| #Default = '''Bonus:''' <br />
}}
: {{{bonus}}}

I would not be opposed to this. ~ Meneth (talk) 16:17, 7 November 2014 (CET)

Versioning[edit]

Can we add version to this template? So we can know if the Ideas is updated or. Stigni (talk) 13:34, 6 December 2015 (CET)

The most things are possible.
The template is used by basic, group and country ideas. This would mean 1 edit for each of the ~250 ideas (plus 1 edit if you update the national idea page as a whole and replace the versioning by search and replace.) and not only 1 edit for the ideas which have been changed. That's a lot of additional work.
All idea infoboxes should be up to date (for 1.14) thus we have the time until the next majot patch to discuss. – Lillebror (talk) 09:54, 7 December 2015 (CET)
I was just thinking that the versioning updates could be done through AWB, so that there is not much extra work. – Lillebror (talk) 08:35, 12 December 2015 (CET)
If you can do it then please go for it, though I'd ask for it to be after the contest ends so I have an easier time awarding tickets. Dauth (talk) 09:17, 12 December 2015 (CET)
Done. This template needs a better documentation. – Lillebror (talk) 14:08, 12 December 2015 (CET)
Documentation should be on a separate page so anyone can edit it. At least, the version parameter should be documented. Hairy Dude (talk) 20:28, 4 January 2016 (CET)
You can just copy User:Hairy Dude/Template:Idea group/documentation now. (And feel free to delete that page afterwards.) Hairy Dude (talk) 21:02, 4 January 2016 (CET)

Header / ToC[edit]

I would like the same header style in National Ideas, in Idea groups and in each countries page; I tried a couple of solution today but I do not realized that I messed up the ToC in the countries page. I am really sorry; so someone have an idea to standardize the header? Stigni (talk) 16:01, 7 January 2016 (CET)

What do you mean with the same style? Can you give an example? The headers on the national ideas and the idea groups page are also headings. On the other pages the header is normal text. – Lillebror (talk) 16:24, 7 January 2016 (CET)

Plainlist vs abuse of deflist markup[edit]

For ideas that give more than one bonus, I'd like to use {{plainlist}} instead of abusing deflist markup, but this breaks the template:

Religious idea group.png Religious

Cb on religious enemies.png Deus Vult

Permanent casus belli against neighboring heathens and heretics

Missionaries.png Missionary Schools

+1 Missionaries

Stability cost modifier.png Church Attendance Duty

-25% Stability cost modifier

Missionary strength.png Divine Supremacy

+3% Missionary strength

Tolerance own.png Devoutness

  • +1 Tolerance of the true faith
  • +2 Yearly papal influence
  • +0.25 Monthly fervor
  • +0.5 Yearly devotion
  • +10% Church power

Prestige.png Religious Tradition

+1 Yearly prestige

Missionary strength vs heretics.png Inquisition

+2% Missionary strength vs heretics

Idea bonus.png Bonus:

-25% Culture conversion cost

Associated events: Religious idea group events

What's happening here is that MediaWiki cuts off the first <dd> prematurely, because there's a newline. This happens after the plainlist div starts, which causes the HTML to be ill-formed. Ideas should really be using styled divs to indent, rather than abusing deflist markup. Hairy Dude (talk) 22:07, 22 January 2016 (CET)

We can insert {{plainlist}} directly in the template for example {{plainlist|indent=1|{{{idea1effect}}}}} and so we can also unify Tradition in only one variable. You can see the result on my sandbox (the collapsed feature is for another test, see section below). Stigni (talk) 11:12, 28 January 2016 (CET)

infobox height[edit]

I would like to change the following lines:

|float={{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|National ideas|left|{{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|Idea groups|left|right}}}}
|clear={{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|National ideas|none|{{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|Idea groups|none|right}}}}
|height={{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|National ideas|770px|{{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|Idea groups|770px|auto}}}}

to

|float=right
|clear=right

and instead on the national ideas and idea groups page place the infoboxes with the box wrapper template. This would eliminate the problems with the different heights, especially when additional space is needed for the outdated info of the versioning. ( For example, a part of the idea groups page would look like my current sandbox.) What do you think? – Lillebror (talk) 09:22, 28 January 2016 (CET)

If someone doesn't like the different heights of the boxes in a row. This could easily be changed, see my sandbox. – Lillebror (talk) 09:30, 28 January 2016 (CET)
Hate differing heights, yeah. Your second link looks good. ~ Meneth (talk) 10:01, 28 January 2016 (CET)
Same-height version looks good. Do you plan to apply the changes to the Template:box wrapper as well or just on those pages? Making it global will keep consistency and uniformity across the board [also, the height issue is kinda annoying on other infobox types as well]. ~ SolSys (talk) 10:54, 28 January 2016 (CET)
I have tested the new box wrapper with collapsed infobox (see my sandbox) and it works fine, so for me can make both edit (here and in {{box wrapper}}). Stigni (talk) 11:56, 28 January 2016 (CET)
What point is there to collapsing them? I feel we currently overuse collapsing, making info harder to find as it breaks CTRL+F. ~ Meneth (talk) 13:41, 28 January 2016 (CET)
The boxwrapper is used also with Event/Decision that is collapsed; the collapsed feature was insert in Idea group only for page like Europe eastern regions, where the NIs distrupt the countries' list but it was never used. Stigni (talk) 14:02, 28 January 2016 (CET)
I would like the collapse function to be applied to NIs as well. It will allow to insert more of them on the regional pages - especially with the smaller tables [again, keeping consistency] - without taking occupying a lot of space. Obviously, they would be set to be open by default. Edit: Example. ~ SolSys (talk) 14:20, 28 January 2016 (CET)
Using collapsing NIs in those specific instances makes sense to me as well. So as long as we're careful to not use it outside of where it's actually needed, the option makes sense. ~ Meneth (talk) 14:24, 28 January 2016 (CET)

I’ve done my proposed changes. – Lillebror (talk) 17:52, 28 January 2016 (CET)

A diffrent high of the event/decision/mission infoboxes don’t bother me so much, as there is no light-dark contrast. I’ve added the stretch as optional parameter to the box wrapper template. – Lillebror (talk) 18:02, 28 January 2016 (CET)
