Template talk:Country navbox
Humble beginnings[edit source]
I've copied from the original from Lillebror but haven't got it to quite behave. Any obvious mistakes? Dauth (talk) 22:40, 13 June 2015 (CEST)
- You've got an errant linebreak somewhere I think. Stripping out one fixed it, but it is probably coming from that section template or something. ~ Meneth (talk) 22:42, 13 June 2015 (CEST)
- Yep. Fixed it. You had a couple of linebreaks between the closing div and the noinclude stuff. Can't do that or Mediawiki gets angry. ~ Meneth (talk) 22:43, 13 June 2015 (CEST)
- To sum it up:
More than one space doesn't matter. Single line breaks don't matter.
Double line breaks do.
More than double also matter.
Tab design[edit source]
I've installed an extension that allows us to use tabs, and have spent some time getting it working on this page.
Thoughts on how it looks? ~ Meneth (talk) 23:50, 13 June 2015 (CEST)
Which countries[edit source]
I know Lillebror made the template, were the countries that were in the template vetted? I know we decided that we'd only put in high(er) quality articles. Dauth (talk) 23:56, 13 June 2015 (CEST)
- We'll have to wait for Lillebror, but I think the general idea was pages rated B or higher. ~ Meneth (talk) 00:00, 14 June 2015 (CEST)
- Oh, I don't know it anymore. B rated could be a good idea. There should be a strategy on the page. ;-) – Lillebror (talk) 00:10, 14 June 2015 (CEST)
Rollout[edit source]
I've rolled it out to all country pages (that match the actual in-game name at least).
Turns out the first plugin I used was kinda terrible. To use parser functions (which includes simple template parameters), the parser version of the tags have to be used. Shouldn't have been a problem... except the parser version didn't actually tabulate, instead giving collapsible boxes. Someone probably messed up in some way while either coding the thing, or writing documentation.
So I switched to another plugin, though that has its own issues. Namely that there's no way there to specify which tab is first other than the order you define them. Which is why I had to add a bunch of sub-templates to re-order it. I also had to mod the plugin so it wouldn't insert extraneous paragraph tags at the top of the bottom; it freaked out a little whenever a tab didn't both start and end with plain text.
Anyway, it should work fine now. It's a partially JavaScript solution though unlike the previous plugin (pure CSS3), so while loading it might briefly flash. Also means it looks wrong on preview screens. Sigh. ~ Meneth (talk) 12:36, 14 June 2015 (CEST)
- Well done Meneth. Does make me watching the 24h Le Mans feel slightly more guilty for not working on it. Dauth (talk) 12:34, 14 June 2015 (CEST)
[edit source]
I noticed that some Central American/Mesoamerican countries (Maya, Aztec) do not appear in a country navbox even though the template is on the respective country pages. I did not check whether any other countries or regions are affected. --Lateralus (talk) 14:42, 15 July 2015 (CEST) Update: Wales also in Europe, so it does not seem related to any particular region --Lateralus (talk) 14:47, 15 July 2015 (CEST)
- The navbox is primarily for countries with useful strategies, so a number of countries are not in there as a result of either not having a strategy, or having a bad strategy. ~ Meneth (talk) 14:53, 15 July 2015 (CEST)
- Yep. Though anyone that's in the autopatrol group (which you're in; people get added to it by me after making a few good edits) also have the ability to edit the continent templates used within it. So if you see a page with a good strategy that's missing, feel free to add it. ~ Meneth (talk) 14:58, 15 July 2015 (CEST)
[Unindented] I think Salish was just added to Class B following my work on it; should it be added to the navbox? --Rituro (talk) 07:01, 8 November 2016 (CET)
- I just had a look. The article needs rewrite/cleanup. You can use the style guide for reference. Also, while use of icons tend to draw attention it's becomes a drawback if done excessively; try to limit number of icons per section/paragraph. ~ SolSys (talk) 11:19, 8 November 2016 (CET)
Georgia[edit source]
Can anyone explain why Georgia is shown as a part of Western culture group here, but not on its country page? For laughs? 178.121.222.45 19:58, 27 September 2015 (CEST)
- Someone put it in the wrong group here. I've corrected it. ~ Meneth (talk) 20:00, 27 September 2015 (CEST)
Timurids[edit source]
Timurids should be in the Muslim tech group, and not Nomadic. 67.148.129.78 15:09, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
