Religious Turmoil
Too much religious differences in our country is causing a lot of intolerance and bigotry.

Religious Turmoil[1] is a general Disaster.png disaster that can occur in Catholicism Catholic, Protestantism Protestant or Reformed.png Reformed countries after the Reformation starts, but only during the Age of Reformation.png ‘Age of Reformation’.

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

The Reformation has started, it is currently the Age of Reformation.png ‘Age of Reformation’, and the country:

If these prerequisites are met, the monthly progress can begin.

Monthly progress starts if Monthly progress halts if

the country:

  • does not have an ongoing disaster.
  • has Religious unity.png religious unity of less than 75%.
  • has not completed the Humanist idea group.png Humanist idea group.
  • owns at least one Catholicism Catholic, Protestantism Protestant or Reformed.png Reformed province that is not the state religion.
Monthly progress Condition
+2.0% has a hostile Center of reformation.png center of reformation.
+2.0% has Religious unity.png religious unity of less than 50%.
+1.0% has Religious unity.png religious unity of less than 75% but above 50%.
+1.0% has Religious idea group.png Religious idea group.
+1.0% has Stability.png stability of less than 0.
−1.0% has a friendly Center of reformation.png center of reformation.
at least one of the following is true for the country:
  • has an ongoing disaster.
  • has Religious unity.png religious unity of at least 75%.
  • has completed the Humanist idea group.png Humanist idea group.

If the progress reaches 100%, the disaster will start with the following event:

Despite $MONARCH$'s effort to mediate between the different religious groups in our nation, conflicts have been erupting on a regular basis. The situation has worsened and without drastic measures, we will soon be engulfed in a religious civil war.

If the country has the ‘Religious Turmoil’ disaster ongoing then it:

  • gets the modifier “Intolerant Society” until the end of the disaster, giving the following effects:
    • Missionary strength vs heretics.png+2% Missionary strength vs heretics
    • Tolerance heretic.png−2 Tolerance of heretics

We should strive for a tolerant society

If the country has the ‘Religious Turmoil’ disaster ongoing then it:

  • gets the modifier “Tolerant Society” until the end of the disaster, giving the following effects:
    • Stability cost modifier.png+50% Stability cost modifier
    • Tolerance heretic.png+1 Tolerance of heretics

Our country's harsh subjugation of heretics hasn't brought the expected results. Instead of restoring order and bringing our nation under one religious faith, our actions have further agitated the population leading to increased violence and acts of cruelty.

Even though attempts have been made to transform our society into a more tolerant one, violent outbursts and riots are becoming more common. The violence has escalated and atrocities are being committed on both sides, widening the religious chasm and threatening to tear our country apart from within.

  • converts to the religion of the province owner and gets Local autonomy.png +20% Local autonomy.

The edict of tolerance, proclaimed by $MONARCH$ a short while back has proven to be nothing more than mere words. There have been several violent incidents and atrocities against religious minority groups since the declaration where $MONARCH$ has taken the stance of complete ignorance.

The country loses:

Finishing conditions[edit | edit source]

If either the country:

  • has no province controlled by rebels.
  • At least one of the following is true: The country
    • has a Religious unity.png religious unity of at least 90%.
    • does not own a Catholicism Catholic, Protestantism Protestant or Reformed.png Reformed province that is not the state religion.
    • has completed the Humanist idea group.png Humanist idea group.
    • has been force-converted.

or:

  • this disaster lasts at least Time Icon.png 25 years,

then the following event is triggered:
