Ngati Ranginui is a one-province Maori chiefdom (iwi) in the North Island of New Zealand. By conquering the other iwi to unite New Zealand, it can form Aotearoa. It borders Tainui to the northwest, Ngati Toa to the southwest, Ngati Kahungunu to the southeast and Ngati Awa to the east.

Uniting New Zealand as quickly as possible to form Aotearoa is likely to be a priority when playing as Ngati Ranginui, as European nations will begin colonising Oceania relatively soon after beginning to colonise the Americas, and be extremely difficult to evict. Ngati Ranginui starts with 10 development, equal to Tainui, Ngati Toa and Ngapuhi as the most in New Zealand. Their central position in the North Island also gives some flexibility in expansion. The kingdom government rank can be achieved without forming Aotearoa through the Centralize the Realm mission; however, irrespective of whether the player chooses to form Aotearoa the same strategies will be relevant for Ngati Ranginui once it has united New Zealand.
