Lucky nations is a setting changeable at game set-up. It grants the luck bonus to eight countries, depending on the setting, either a predetermined historical group or at random. If a lucky nation is annexed or becomes a subject of the player country, a new country is assigned lucky nation status. Achievements can only be earned with the "historic lucky nations" setting. The player’s nation will never receive the lucky status.

Historically lucky nations[edit | edit source]

In a default "historical" setting,[3] the following nations have Luck modifier if they are not player controlled, exist at chosen date, and have the corresponding secondary requirement.

  1. Flag of Castile Castile (before year 1700 and Spain does not exist) / Flag of Spain Spain (before year 1700 and Castile does not exist)
  2. Flag of Ottomans Ottomans (before year 1700)
  3. Flag of Muscovy Muscovy (if Russia does not exist) / Flag of Russia Russia
  4. Flag of England England (if Great Britain does not exist) / Flag of Great Britain Great Britain
  5. Flag of France France
  6. Flag of Austria Austria
  7. Flag of Prussia Prussia (after year 1700)
  8. Flag of Netherlands Netherlands
  9. Flag of Portugal Portugal (before year 1700)
  10. Flag of Jianzhou Jianzhou (if neither Manchu nor Qing exist)/ Flag of Manchu Manchu (if Qing doesn't exist)/ Flag of Qing Qing
  11. Flag of Brandenburg Brandenburg
  12. Flag of Sweden Sweden (before year 1700)
  13. Flag of Poland Poland (If Commonwealth does not exist) / Flag of Commonwealth Commonwealth (before year 1700)

The first eight nations from the top of the list will get priority on acquiring the Luck modifier, therefore, at the beginning of 1444, the lucky nations are (unless you pick one of them):

Flag of Castile Castile, Flag of Ottomans Ottomans, Flag of Muscovy Muscovy, Flag of England England, Flag of France France, Flag of Austria Austria, Flag of Portugal Portugal, and Flag of Jianzhou Jianzhou.

Flag of Brandenburg Brandenburg will be lucky if any of the aforementioned countries are player-controlled.

Identifying lucky nations[edit | edit source]

Via province interface: A lucky nation can most easily be determined by viewing the defensiveness in a province of that nation, which receives a Fort defense.png+10% fort defense bonus for “luck”.

Via country interface: It is also possible to identify a lucky nation by scrolling over the spy icon in the diplomacy tab as lucky nations will receive a Spy network construction.png+10% spy network construction bonus.

Jan Mayen & the Synthetics[edit | edit source]

Flag of Jan Mayen Jan Mayen and Flag of Synthetics Synthetics are also lucky nations. They can only be summoned into the game via the console, using the command bearhaslanded for Jan Mayen and syntheticdawn for the Synthetics.
