The Grandmaster Hospitaler d'Aubusson who so successfully had defended Rhodos against the previous sultan, Mehmed II, imprisoned the brother of the Turkish sultan Bayezid II despite a promise of safe conduct in 1483. Such a prestigious captive was obviously a strong negotiation asset for many of the enemies of the Ottoman Empire and several countries were prepared to pay large sums for him.

Msg event.pngThe Great Carrack of Alexandria


The small but proficient fleet of the Knights was the scourge of Muslims for hundreds of years. Keeping the waters clear of enemy privateers as well as capturing trade ships of the Muslims, kept the coffers on Rhodos full and Muslim sailors in terror. One of the most famous events was the capturing of the Great Carrack from Alexandria in 1569, filled with enormous riches.

Msg event.pngGabriele Tadini de Martinengo


Martinengo was the best fortification engineer of Europe. He was authorized to improve the fortresses on Rhodes. In 1521, when he had worked for a couple of months he was so enamored with the Knights and their ideals that he kneeled in front of the Grand Master and begged him to make him a Knight. The Grand master accepted him into the brotherhood and he fought bravely, dying in battle of Rhodes in 1522.

Msg event.pngJean Parisot de la Valette


After it was acquired by the Knights, Malta became as strong a fortress as Rhodes had been. Under Grand Master Jean Parisot de La Valette, they 1565 successfully withstood an Ottoman siege consisting of 180 ships and close to 50.000 men against only 9000 defenders for six months, before the invader was forced to leave. The new capital city of Valletta became a town of splendid palaces and unparalleled fortifications. Growing in power and wealth owing mainly to their maritime raiding adventures against the Turks.

Msg event.pngThe Knights of St. John of Jerusalem


Being driven from the island of Rhodes by the Turks, the knights wandered homeless until in 1530 Holy Roman Emperor Charles V conferred upon them the sovereignty of the island of Malta and the port city of Tripoli.

The reconquest of Antioch is a cause for great celebration. The Knights of Saint John feel a renewed sense of purpose as they establish their new headquarters in the city, decorating buildings with their banners and gathering around as priests consecrate the land. Our captains and generals excitedly discuss plans for the reorganization of the Order and their plans for training the influx of new recruits from every corner of Christendom.

In the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade a Latin Empire was established in Constantinople, laying claim to the legacy of the fallen Byzantine Empire. The region once again finds itself under Catholic rule, this time in the wake of a campaign of conquest by [Root.GetName]. [Root.Monarch.GetName] has proclaimed that [Root.GetName] shall take up the mantle of Rome, and vows to defend Constantinople against the enemies of God and the Pope.

After a bloody struggle against its defenders, the Ark of the Covenant has been recovered. In their death throes the guardians warned us never to open the sacred chest, but as the glorious golden casket sits upon the floor of the palace in [Root.Capital.GetCapitalName], [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] [Root.Monarch.GetName] is gripped by temptation. It is said that the Ark contains two of the Ten Commandments given to Moses directly by God. Such a treasure can hardly be ignored; even to gaze upon such holy relics would be divine. Or perhaps it would be blasphemy. As the [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] approaches the Ark, [Root.Monarch.GetSheHe] wonders if [Root.Monarch.GetSheHe] is worthy.
