Hinduism events

Hinduism events[1] are a group of events for countries (or more specifically their rulers) which follow Hinduism. Depending on the circumstances, the player may be given the choice to send their ruler into a period of contemplation (usually 5 years), during which their country will suffer some penalties. Once the ruler returns from contemplation, he will typically get a permanent skill increase and a prestige bonus. Rulers can only benefit from these event once.

Choice of personal deity[edit]

If the ruler has not chosen a personal deity, the following event will eventually trigger:

The [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] of [Root.GetName] has not sought out a god to follow. The people will not only need guidance in mundane matters, but also know that their leader shows spiritual devotion and seeks religious wisdom. [Root.Monarch.GetName]'s soul stands at a crossroads. The faith and philosophy [Root.Monarch.GetSheHe] chooses will guide [Root.Monarch.GetHerHis] insights and legacy as a [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] and shape the fate of [Root.GetName]. Shiva[edit]

Shiva's events depend on having either a particular administrative advisor, or an ally who follows Vishnu.

Msg event.pngShiva the Creator

Of all those who attempt to capture Shiva's glory in art, $ARTIST$ has always succeeded beyond others. This is why they were called to your court, but despite their helpful advice on many topics, their knowledge of the divine remains a mystery to you.

One night, walking through the palace halls of [Root.Capital.GetCapitalName], you see $ARTIST$ putting the finishing touches on a statue and finally ask them what visions allowed them to portray the many faces of Shiva.
'Each and every soul is part of the spirit of Lord Shiva,' $ARTIST$ answers, 'and just as Shiva created all there is, the soul is blessed with the power to create. Know this within yourself, and you will know the divine.'

'Look at the hand in front of you. Shiva's raised palm is a reminder that he not only creates and destroys, but also preserves. Fear not.'

In the midst of leading this onslaught, you have had little time for meditation or any sort of religious thought. Msg event.pngShiva Revealed

After many years searching for a guru to guide you, you have found no one who can adequately explain the mysteries of existence or bring clarity in religious matters. At this point, you are beginning to lose hope in great teachers and prefer to discuss the spiritual with your peers.

One day, you speak with the ruler of one of [Root.GetName]'s allies, discussing the nature of the soul and its unity with the divine. Although your ally is a follower of Vishnu, you find that your words about Shiva resonate.

Later, you think about the conversation and realize that what you said did not sound like the words of a pupil, but a master. Perhaps Shiva has already shown you his grace by giving you this revelation.

Shakti[edit]

Shakti's skill events trigger when the ruler has a young heir, or the country has a royal marriage with a country that follows Vishnu. The ruler can then meditate a second time, but this time giving a country bonus instead of a skill increase.

Msg event.pngLakshmi, Bride of Vishnu (begin)

Maintaining marriage bonds with other countries has helped [Root.GetName] diplomatically and in a recent meeting with the ruler of such an ally, you also discussed the spiritual significance of the bonds of marriage.

The ruler and many ambassadors were followers of Vishnu, and knew Shakti as Vishnu's consort Lakshmi. You took this opportunity to speak to them about the importance of the goddess as a medium to the divine. Your words seemed to sink in and their leaders now have a better understanding of our faith as well as the value of our royal marriage.

Your understanding of Shakti's creative and graceful aspect has aided [Root.GetName]'s efforts in intimidating and enticing other nations to join our causes. One of many methods by which nations are bound is through the union of marriage, which you sometimes find to be the most elegant solution, having established several such bonds with other nations. Diplomatic negotiations have taken on the character of extended family gatherings, all united by the blood of [Root.Monarch.Dynasty.GetName].

As of late, the profound impact of these unions have inspired you to consider how the goddess aids your work. Perhaps deeper tantric meditation can bring you closer to understanding her.

[Root.GetName] is in flames. You are at war against those who would see your country crushed and its loyal subjects slain. Such an assault on your people is unacceptable, and you find an unusual fury burning within you directed at those who caused this conflict. From the way others look at you, it is clear that you must appear frightening in your anger and determination.

While recuperating in a temple, you see a statue of Kali, horrifying in its appearance and brutality. Yet in its eyes, red with rage, you see something of yourself: a sense of purpose. Just as Kali guards her children, you will protect the sons and daughters of [Root.GetName] to the end.

Your search for religious truths sometimes feels impossible, as if the divine and your own spirit were separated by the rules of existence itself. You seek advice from a person at the court, $THEOLOGIAN$, on the matter and he answers:

Throughout your life as a follower of Ganga, you have seen many pass on and go through their funeral rites, which sometimes involve water from the sacred river. You have lived long enough to think about your own mortality and how one day, your body will die and your spirit ascend to the heavens.

Msg event.pngGanga

Reaching the bank of Ganges, you feel a sense of providence. As you step into the river with the ashes, you envision the water that surrounds you flowing through the three worlds, seeing the darkness of Patala as well as the beauty of Svarga.

As Ganga once descended to the world and blessed it with her waters, your predecessor's spirit will ascend to the heavens. You feel an unprecedented unity with the goddess and the river, praying that you will once see the end of your life on this sacred shore.

Surya[edit]

Surya's event requires a temple in the capital.

Msg event.pngTemples of the Sun

Surya is not as venerated as he once was. The Saura who viewed him as the absolute divine are growing ever fewer, and across India, many of the temples that honored him have been neglected or even destroyed. Not every ruler retains dedication to Surya as you do, and iconoclasts of other faiths have put great effort into the demolition of these last bastions of the Supreme Light.

However, the temple dedicated to him in [Root.Capital.GetCapitalName] still stands tall. Under your watchful eye, as well as the eye of Mitra, Varuna, and Agni, it will never fall. Viewing the fate of other temples as a warning, you are now considering spending more time and money on maintaining the temple.

Your determination to preserve this monument to Surya's greatness has grown. You will watch over [Root.GetName] as Surya watches over you, and should anyone try to destroy its temples, your wrath will burn them as the sun scorches the earth.

Msg event.pngChanging Seasons

Winter is coming to an end. Surya is turning his chariot and bringing warmth and spring to [Root.GetName]. Usually, this has been celebrated in a simple manner by Surya's devotees in their own homes, but after the work put into the [Root.Capital.GetCapitalName] sun temple, more and more people seem to gather there. This could be an excellent opportunity to honor the Supreme Light with a larger festival.

Msg event.pngChild of Surya

[Root.GetName] has been without eligible heirs for some time, which has worried members of the [Root.Monarch.Dynasty.GetName] family. A princess of the proper lineage has recently given birth to a child who would be next in line to the throne, were it not for the fact that she is unmarried.

Being versed in the legends of the Mahabharata, however, she recounts the tale of how the great king Karna was born of a virgin by Surya himself. The princess explains that she too learned the mantra by which the princess of legend became pregnant and that her child, the child of the sun, is destined for great things.

Msg event.pngGuru Meditation

The people as well as the [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] must sometimes rely on the wisdom of holy teachers for advice. A guru is not only a teacher, but also a student of the spiritual and must sometimes withdraw to reflect on it undisturbed. One of the most respected gurus, whose knowledge was frequently sought by the [Root.Monarch.Dynasty.GetName] family, has grown extremely reclusive lately, spending almost all of his time in deep meditation. The court and the people grow restless, viewing this as a bad sign.
