The city of Durlach has grown into a prosperous town. However, visitors are often underwhelmed by its ill looks and general lack of splendor, compared to our neigbors' main cities. [Root.Monarch.GetTitle] [Root.Monarch.GetName] shares this opinion. In a dream, [Root.Monarch.GetSheHe] recently saw a vision of a grand palace at the heart of a beautiful, well-ordered city - [Root.Monarch.GetHerHis] city.
Durlach's municipal authorities are reluctant to allow a major redevelopment of the city and its palaces, so another site a short distance from the town has been suggested. The proposed site, which proponents of the plan are calling "Karlsruhe", shows considerable promise; however, Durlach's inhabitants may resent their town being supplanted. Should we build the new city?

Decisions[edit | edit source]
Form Swabia

The old Duchy of Swabia ended with the execution of Conradin, the last of the Hohenstaufen Dukes, in 1268. Since then, a plethora of countries, bishoprics and free cities have emerged to fill the void left by the fall of the Hohenstaufens. However, these small states are often unable to protect their liberty - thus, the Habsburgs of Austria have built up considerable territorial holdings in Swabia, which they call "Further Austria". We must restore unity to Swabia if we are to end this pattern of outside encroachment.

Regardless of the absence of a strong, central authority, our nation is prospering. The Hanseatic League, formed by hundreds of towns in northern Germany, has contributed to the prosperity of our nation. Intellectual growth, combined with sea and overland trading, has also helped spur the development and transform our country into a wealthy manufacturing center.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Early game[edit | edit source]
Alsace, Wurttemberg and Switzerland are interesting early targets and can be set as rivals. Potential allies are Austria, to prevent unlawfull territory and Milan, since it has an interest in Swiss land and no heir. The first war against Alsace should be fought as soon as possible to prevent the Palatinate from conquering it. While fighting against Alsace, there is a good chance the Palatinate declares war on them, which allows to fight a defensive war after vassalising Alsace. Taking one province from and vassalising the Palatinate strengthens the players position. The one province taken from the Palatinate allows further conquest north. Conquering Wurttemberg and then Ansbach allows to circumvent the southern city states and expand east. Wars against Switzerland will be supported by Milan, in exchange for land. Taking provinces in the French culture group will move the player into Frances focus. A buffer in form of a vassal allows to maintain good relations with France.
Emperor[edit | edit source]
Becoming emperor as Baden is a realistic goal. It can be done either by allying or vassalising three of the neighbouring electors.
