At the beginning of the game, Ansbach is surrounded by Bavaria and The Palatinate, who usually ally Austria. Ansbach has the same Hohenzollern dynasty than Brandenburg, so an alliance with Brandenbourg is possible, and, if the player have so much luck, an PU over it. Ansbach is an Opm, so the player can join a trade league, in order to can ally the merchant republic who is lead the league : Venice, Genoa or Lübeck (it can also be Ragusa or Novgorod, but the player hasn't any interest to ally them). Nuremberg is a easy target in the beginning of the game, but it can have joined a trade league. In this situation, it is difficult for the player to beat Nuremberg and the entire trade league. It is the same situation for Ulm. Expansion at Bavaria is possible, but the player must be allied with another HRE's great power : Bohemia, Brandenburg or Austria. Ally with Austria is also useful, because the Emperor don't demand unlawful territories if the player ally it. At West, The Palatinate is usually allied with Austria, so it isn't a good idea to attack it at the beginning of the game.
